Under a joint project of the Central Election Commission of Georgia and the Georgia Ministry of Penitentiary and Correction on June 4, 2014 the training program was held for the employees of the penitentiary system. The subject of the training was organizing electoral processes at penitentiary institutions.
The representatives of the CEC Center of Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Trainings and the Penitentiary and Probation Training Center organized the training under the program.
Giorgi Sharabidze, Deputy Chair of the CEC, Natia Zaalishvili, Director, CEC Center of Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Trainings, and Maia Khasia, Director of the Penitentiary and Probation Training Center welcomed the training participants. They highlighted the importance of the above-mentioned training program in terms of the support of the full-fledged realization of suffrage by the inmates eligible to vote.
As part of the Training the participants were informed about the following main issues: organizing electoral processes at penitentiary institutions, the rule of posting agitation materials and raising awareness of the inmates eligible to vote, the procedures of voting by prisoners.
The participants were provided the manuals developed by the CEC Center of Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Trainings and the Penitentiary and Probation Training Center.
For increasing the awareness of prisoners eligible to vote relevant informational booklets were prepared; these booklets were provided to the administrations of penitentiary institutions to ensure their distribution.
