The Central Election Commission (CEC) and the LEPL Centre for Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Training (Training Centre) implemented another large-scale informational-training program for civic education teachers in public schools.
The project “Democratic Elections and the Electoral Environment” was conducted from April 1 to May 7, 2026. the primary goal of the project is to share practical experience in election education with teachers, foster interest in electoral processes among the younger generation, and promote the enhancement of their civic awareness.
This year, the project expanded its scope, covering a total of 28 municipalities. 522 civic education teachers from public schools participated in the information sessions."
It is noteworthy that the program was inclusive, as evidenced by the involvement of municipalities populated by ethnic minorities. Specifically, 114 public school teachers from the Lagodekhi, Marneuli, Tsalka, Ninotsminda, and Akhalkalaki municipalities completed the course.
The project was also successfully implemented in the municipalities of Sighnaghi, Akhmeta, Dedoplistskaro, Rustavi, Gori, Khashuri, Adigeni, Tsageri, Lentekhi, Oni, Zestafoni, Kutaisi, Khoni, Baghdati, Sachkhere, Tkibuli, Abasha, Poti, Chkhorotsqu, Kobuleti, Khulo, Shuakhevi, and Keda.
Within the framework of the program, Training Centre staff discussed the following key issues with the teachers: the importance of the voter's role and aspects of political culture; principles of conducting elections and international standards; trends in election modernization and the use of electronic technologies in the voting process; the realization of voters' electoral rights, secrecy, and security during the polling process; an inclusive electoral environment; and the electoral services offered to voters by the Election Administration of Georgia.
In order to ensure continuous education in the electoral field within public schools, teachers were provided with a special supporting resource developed by the Training Centre, which includes thematic reading materials, practical exercises, and methodological guidelines. Participants evaluated the program positively and noted that they will actively apply the practical experience gained during the teaching process."
The project has been implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia since 2024. To date, more than 1500 teachers have completed the “Democratic Elections and the Electoral Environment“ program.
