The Central Election Commission of Georgia (CEC) and LEPL Center for Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Training (Training Centre) is implementing the information-training course "Elections and Young Voters" in public schools from October 26, 2023. Project aims to raise the electoral awareness of young people and promote the development of civic culture. The implementation of the program developed by the Training Centre is planned in more than 300 public schools located in 64 municipalities of Georgia.
In accordance with the complex task of forming young people into informed voters, the training program was updated. While discussing various election issues students of XI-XII dagrees will receive information about the modernization of elections, the novelties of conducting the polling process with electronic devices and the election services introduced for voters, the method of using special electronic devices for voter verification and vote counting as well as international practices in this direction will be discussed.
Along with theoretical issues, students will undergo practical training. Simulated voting processes will be held, which will strengthen the motivation of young people, make them more interested in election processes and become active participants.
The information-training course "Elections and Young Voters" will be held in public schools from October 26 to November 6, 2023. 109 trainers trained by the Training Centre will ensure the implementation of the project.
The project has been implemented since 2015 in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. Up to now, about 19 000 pupils of XI-XII dagrees of 1038 public schools located in 64 municipalities have passed the information-training program.
