Media representatives have undergone training on electoral issues. Chairperson of Central Election Commission (CEC) together with deputies and Director of Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Training Centre (Training Centre), opened the two-day training held in Telavi.
Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the CEC’s Chairperson discussed activities carried out and planned by the election administration (EA) for the 2 October 2021 elections with media representatives. Representatives of the EA, CEC’s Training Centre, and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) detailed journalists on the following topics: role of media in the electoral process; the role of media and rights in the polling process; regulations of photo/video recording on E-day; combatting hate speech in the electoral process and the role of media; the role of media and other involved parties in ensuring the safe electoral environment; regulations related to holding elections amid the pandemic; electoral legislative novelties and so forth. During the training, a discussion was held and the questions of the journalists were answered by the CEC leaders together with the trainers.
The training for media representatives was implemented with the support of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and 17 representatives of media participated in it.
