The CEC and the Training Center held an informational meeting with the representatives of regional mass media. Tamar Zhvania, CEC Chair, Giorgi Sharabidze, Deputy Chairperson, and Natia Zaalishvili, the Training Center Director opened the event. They placed emphasis on the importance of the role of mass media for raising voters’ awareness around elections.

As part of the meeting the participants were also informed about legislative mechanisms for ensuring secure electoral environment and discussed the role of mass media in the process of holding peaceful elections. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Training Center representatives briefed the participants around the above issues. While IFES representatives shared with the participants their experience with principal schemes of reporting on elections and international electoral security standards.

The informational meeting was held on October 2 in Tbilisi. Representatives of TV and radio broadcasters, print and online mass media took part in it. Next meetings will be held on October 3 and 4.
CEC and Training Center held the informational meetings with media with support of International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) in cooperation with Georgian Regional Media Association and Journalism Resource Center.
