On June 24, an open house day was organized at the CEC for the students taking a semestrial course in Electoral Law as part of the Law Clinic at the CEC Training Center.
The students met Tamar Zhvania, CEC Chair, in person. She spoke to them about the history of elections in Georgia, specificities of past elections in Georgia, experience of the Electoral Administration, challenges and the process of preparing for the Parliament 2016 Elections, as well as the importance of active engagement of youth in electoral processes.
After the meeting with the CEC Chair, Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Sokhumi State University students visited the historical photo exhibition of electoral history of Georgia at the CEC. “Elections – Making of a Nation”, is a permanent exhibition displaying unique material of the electoral history of Georgia, for the period 1918 – 2008.
Today the leadership of structural units of the CEC met with the students as well. Each of them briefed the young people about activities of their respective departments and answered the questions of students around the issues of interest to them.
The students who visited the CEC today are representatives of eighth group of the CEC Training Center Law Clinic Program. Law students of universities are involved in the training course developed under the Law Clinic format. The course is aimed at enhancement of required professional knowledge of students in the electoral law, development of their practical skills and raising civic awareness. The Training Center is implementing the mentioned training course with other partner universities as well. Overall, 179 students have taken the training under the Law Clinic format.
