The Election Administration continues to provide information to media representatives regarding ongoing electoral matters. A subsequent working meeting, organized by the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the Training Centre, was held with representatives of television and online media outlets.
The working meeting was opened by the Chairperson of the CEC, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, and the Director of the Training Centre, Natia Zaalishvili. They addressed the role and significance of the media in the ongoing electoral processes. According to Giorgi Kalandarishvili, informing media representatives about elections and, more broadly, about the electoral process is particularly important and indispensable, as the media constitutes one of the essential channels for informing the public.
“Through the working format we have proposed, media representatives have the opportunity to receive comprehensive and in-depth information directly from the leadership of the institution on all electoral issues of interest to them, including the upcoming elections of 4 October. We had a very engaging dialogue. Considering the media’s role in voter education, such meetings are extremely important, as they contribute to raising awareness and subsequently to the provision of verified information to voters,” stated Giorgi Kalandarishvili.
Over the course of two days, within the framework of the working meeting, participants reviewed the process of introducing and applying electoral technologies in the voting procedure, held in-depth discussions on matters related to the municipal elections of 4 October, and addressed issues concerning the legal status and role of the media in covering the elections.
An active discussion took place, during which the Chairperson of the CEC, Deputy Chairperson Giorgi Sharabidze, and the Director of the Training Centre, Natia Zaalishvili, provided comprehensive responses to the questions posed by media representatives.
The working meeting was held on 13–14 September and brought together more than 40 representatives of the media.
