In the period from February 26 to March 7, 2024, the CEC and the Training Centre implemented a large-scale informational project "Democratic Elections and Election Environment" with the involvement of civic education teachers of public schools.
The project is a novelty and serves to fulfill the complex task of raising the civil electoral awareness of the young generation. For this purpose, the Training Centre conducted informational meetings in Educational Resource Centers operating in 22 municipalities, including the municipalities densely populated by ethnic minorities (Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Dusheti, Sagarejo, Telavi, Rustavi, Marneuli, Bolnisi, Gori, Khashuri, Akhaltsikhe, Akhalkalaki, Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Zestafoni, Ambrolauri, Ozurgeti, Chokhatauri, Khobi, Batumi, Kobuleti, Zugdidi). 533 persons took part in the meetings, including 478 civil education teachers of 473 public schools and 55 representatives of 23 Educational Resource Centers (women - 455; men - 78).
The program "Democratic Elections and Election Environment" developed by the Training Centre for basic and secondary level teachers envisages further planning of the lesson process on the election module and sharing of updated information with students. For these purposes, teachers were submitted a specially prepared additional informational resource, which includes the discussed election topics, reading material for the topic expansion, practical exercises and recommended instructions on the methodology of conducting. In addition, the following important issues were discussed with the meeting participants: the importance of the voter's role and aspects of political culture; principles and international standards of conducting democratic elections; trends in the modernization of elections and the use of electronic technologies in the voting process; realization of the voter's electoral right, secrecy and protection during the voting process; inclusive electoral environment; election services offered to voters by the Election Administration of Georgia. Teachers also learned about the process of polling with electronic devices and participated in mock elections.
Civic education teachers positively evaluated the project, which focuses on young people, who will have the contact with elections for the first time in the near future. In the feedback format, the participants noted that the educational material, used role-plays/simulations and shared educational methodology are adapted to the age and interests of the students and will help to familiarize them with election nowelties and understand the importance of the voter's role.
