On May 6, 2019, the CEC and the Training Center commenced the awareness-raising and training course “Elections and Young Voters” for 11th and 12th grader public school students. The program will be implemented at 145 public schools in 64 municipalities of Georgia.
The aim of this initiative is to enhance electoral awareness of young voters and to promote raising their civic responsibility. According to the concept developed by the Training Center, through practical training employed in the training program, the students will learn about such important matters as: historical overview of elections and modern times, elections and democracy, key principles and international standards of holding elections, gender equality, electoral administration and voters, other electoral stakeholders. The training program also envisages debates with youth participation. This component is a novelty in the training program and is aimed at promoting the development of the culture of debates among students.
At the end of the course, the students will hold mock elections, and a winning slogan on the promotion of environmental issues will be identified out of the slogans developed by the students.
The CEC and the Training Center have been implementing the project since 2015, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Sciences, Culture and Sports of Georgia.
The awareness raising and training course will be implemented in stages, during May 6-17 (Stage 1: May 6-10; Stage 2: May 13-17). 111 trainers trained by the Training Center will implement the training project.
