On May 25 - 26, 2017, Tamar Zhvania, CEC Chairman, Natia Zaalishvili, Training Center Director and Elisabeth Velidze, Head of the CEC Registration and Administrative Department participated in the 14th International Electoral Affairs Symposium held in Sri Lanka.
Subsequent to the invitation of the organizer of the International Symposium - International Center for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS), the Training Center Director chaired the round-table discussion Supporting Youth Engagement in Electoral Processes. Tamar Zhvania, CEC Chair, Sarah Harrison, Doctor of the School of Economics and Political Sciences, Joseph Cain, Member of the Nauru Republic Electoral Commission and Sri Ashwini Bhagat, Member of the Election Commission of India (RAJASTAN) took part in the discussion panel. They shared experiences with the participants of the symposium on different programs of education in their countries that envisage more active participation of young voters and facilitate development of electoral culture.
The topics of the sessions and discussions held as part of the event included the following issues: gender equality and elections, effective management of electoral processes in conflict situations, increasing access to electoral environment for voters and their involvement in political processes, modern electoral technologies, etc.
The International Electoral Symposium was organized by the International Center for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS) in cooperation with the Election Commission of Sri Lanka. Representatives of election administrations and various international organizations of more than 30 countries, as well as international experts and companies focused on electoral technologies participated in the event.
