Today, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia and the Training Center presented 2016 activity report. Tamar Zhvania, the CEC Chairperson made opening remarks at the meeting attended by political parties, local and international organizations, state institutions and media representatives.
“It is important that 2016 was the year of successes for the EA since we have conducted in addition to the parliamentary elections, two extra-ordinary elections, and three by-elections. At the same time, we implemented various activities, including providing the modern technology services and service offerings to voters as well as a number of educational projects. However, challenges remain and they are important so are the opinions and remarks shared by the international and local observers. We plan to place greater emphasis on the services and education, "- said the Chairperson of the CEC to journalists.
The participants were informed about the new initiatives of CEC and Training Center for 2017 year and became aware with the concept of new project "talking to voters". Within the framework of the project, representatives of the District Election Commissions (DECs) will conduct public and informational meetings with voters aiming to raise awareness of voters on the upcoming 2017 Municipal Elections. In addition, such meetings would support communication between DECs and people as well as the promotion of the activities and increased visibility of the EA.
