The council working on gender equality issues established at the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia met with the NGO sector on November 16, 2016. The CEC Chairperson Tamar Zhvania talked about the gender equality policy and drew attention at Election Administration’s (EA) priorities and objectives in this respect. The Director of the Training Centre attended the meeting as the member of Working Group.
Zurab Khrikadze, Chairperson of the Council discussed the content of the document and covered the questions raised by the representatives of the Non-governmental organizations who work on the same issue.
According to the document, one of the major goals EA set is ensuring equal conditions for electoral stakeholders’ representatives - women or men, as well as designing special programs for women’s empowerment and further involvement of all interested stakeholders in these programs.
Council members also listened to the opinions shared by the representatives of NGOs at the meeting. It should be noted that the EA’s 2015-2019 Strategic Plan targets the gender equality as its top priority.
