On July 25, 2016, a meeting of the special working group for the development of joint code of conduct of the Electoral Administration and local observer organizations for the Parliamentary elections was held and the draft code was discussed. The mentioned group includes representatives of the Central Election Commission and the Director of the CEC Training Center, as well as representatives of various NGOs (Georgia Young Lawyers’ Association, International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy, Coalition of NGOs for Civic Development, The Center for Development and Democracy, Civil Movement – Multiethnic Georgia, Human Rights Center and Transparency International – Georgia).
The Code of Conduct of the Electoral Administration and local observer organizations is aimed at supporting fair and transparent 2016 Parliamentary Elections, respecting the rule of law and the implementation of key electoral principles.
Notably, organizations registered as observers for the 2015 elections, if willing, will be able to sign the final document whereby they will also declare their agreement to operate pursuant to the norms stipulated in the Code of Conduct.
The working group will submit the final draft of the Code of Conduct by August 1.
