In order to ensure the holding of 2024 Parliamentary Elections of Georgia in a safe environment, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on September 23, within which one of the strategic directions was the training of police officers.
Considering the initiated cooperation, on September 24, Natia Zaalishvili, the Director of the LEPL Centre for Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Training, and Vakhtang Gabrichidze, the Rector of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, held the working meeting, in the format of which they discussed the practical aspects of planning and implementing an informational-study project for law enforcement officers.
In order to promote the involvement of the maximum number of police officers in the training program, the course was decided to be held by a hybrid method. The training sessions will be held both on the spot, on the territory of the MIA Academy, and using a remote platform. The program "Elections and Security" developed by the Training Centre, in cooperation with the Legal Department of the CEC, will be devoted to the following important issues: effective communication between the Election Administration and Law Enforcement Bodies to ensure the safe and peaceful election environment; identification of risks, prevention and response mechanisms to ensure the security of the electoral process in the period before and on the E-day.
The implementation of the informational-study course for police officers is planned from October 1, 2024. The implementation is ensured by the representatives of the Training Centre and the Legal Department of the CEC.
The working meeting with the Director of the Training Centre and the Rector of the MIA Academy was attended by Giorgi Osadze, Vice-Rector of the MIA Academy, Ioseb Chichikashvili, Head of the Professional Training Department of the MIA Academy, Giorgi Santuriani, Head of the CEC Legal Department, Nino Berulava, Deputy Director of the Training Centre, and Maia Gudadze, Head of the Training Program Department of the Training Centre.
The partnership between the Training Centre and the MIA Academy is based on long-term cooperation and serves the purpose of promoting the conduct of elections in a free and peaceful environment.
