From April 28 through May 5, 2014 with the UN Development Program (UNDP) financial support the Central Election Commission of Georgia and the Center of Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Trainings is implementing a large-scale project Elections and the Importance of Youth Involvement in Elections.
The objective of the project is to support raising civic awareness of young voters (including ethnic minority youth) and encourage youth that are voting for the first time (the currency of the project is also due to the approaching local self-government and mayoral/executive officer elections).
The project will be implemented at 10 universities that are signatories of the Memorandum of Cooperation among the CEC, the Center of Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Trainings and the higher educational institutions, including at 2 universities in the regions and 8 universities in Tbilisi (Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Caucasus University, Guram Tavartkiladze Teaching University, Grigol Robakidze University ALMA MATER, Ilia University, Georgia University, Georgia David Aghmashenebeli University, Tbilisi Open Teaching University, Telavi Iakob Gogebashvili State University, Samtskhe-Javakheti State University).
Under the project 1.5 hour workshops will be held for the students of higher educational institutions according to the schedules agreed with the universities; overall, 19 workshops will be conducted. The workshops will be delivered by 7 trainers of the Center of Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Trainings. Youth between the ages 18 and 21 years will participate in the project.
