Official Visit of the Election Administration to Mexico City

The delegation from the election administration, led by Giorgi Kalandarishvili, Chair of the Central Election Commission, embarked on an official visit to the United Mexican States at the invitation of the National Electoral Institute of Mexico and the Electoral Institute of Mexico City.

As part of the visit, Giorgi Kalandarishvili was joined by a delegation consisting of Parmen Jalagonia, Chair of the Adjara Supreme Election Commission, Natia Zaalishvili, Director of the LEPL Electoral Systems Development, Reforms, and Training Centre, and Giorgi Lipartia, Head of the State Procurement Division of the CEC Finance Department. The delegation participated in the international informational forum held on May 30-31.

The forum was organized by the National Electoral Institute of Mexico and the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary, where participants engaged in discussions on a range of significant electoral issues. Among the topics addressed were preparations for the local and federal judiciary elections, implemented electoral and constitutional reforms, election-day procedures, electoral disputes, voter awareness, countering disinformation, election result counting, election logistics, relevant business procedures, and matters related to election financing.

On June 1, the delegation of Georgian election administration monitored elections of local and federal judiciary. It is noteworthy that for the first time in electoral history of Mexico, individuals with voting rights were able to elect representatives of judiciary at both federal and local levels. More than 84,000 polling stations were established, and nine different types of ballot papers were used during the elections. As part of international observation mission, delegation members along with international observers and representatives of other countries’ election administrations visited polling stations in Mexico City. They observed opening of the polling stations as well as E-day procedures and closing of polling along with vote counting at upper level of commissions.

As part of the official visit, CEC Chair met with leadership of National Electoral Institute of Mexico and the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary. The delegation held another meeting with Head and representatives of Electoral Institute of Mexico City.

Additionally, Giorgi Kalandarishvili held meetings with representatives from various international organizations and election administrations from Latin America. The discussions focused on the experience of Georgian election administration in using electronic technologies and countering disinformation, as well as its involvement in various international projects and activities. Simultaneously, the Head of the SEC and the Director of the Training Centre conducted meetings with representatives from election administrations of various countries.

The election administration delegation was on an official visit to Mexico from May 29 to June 2.
