The Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Giorgi Kalandarishvili and the Director of the Centre for Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Training (Training Center) Natia Zaalishvili met with the Coordinator of the Election Program at the Parliamentary Assembly Secretariat of the Council of Europe (CoE), Franck Daeschler, and the Head of the Inter-Parliamentary Co-operation and Parliamentary Projects Support Division, Liri Kopaci-Di Michele.
Within the framework of the workshop, the parties talked about issues of cooperation, discussed the projects and future plans implemented by the CEC and the Training Centre with the support of the European Council.
The Chairman of the CEC thanked the Council of Europe for its contribution to the development of the partnership and election processes. Giorgi Kalandarishvili also informed them about the October 26, 2024 elections and noted that the CEC is actively preparing to hold the parliamentary elections at a high professional level in accordance with European standards. The voter awareness campaign and educational projects related to the use of electronic technologies continue intensively. He also spoke about the results of the international audit of election electronic means and other important election issues. According to him, the involvement and support of international partners is of particular importance and contributes to the democratic conduct of the election process.
Natia Zaalishvili, Director of the Training Center and representatives of the Council of Europe spoke about the effectiveness of the standardization of electoral training. Frank Deshler emphasized the importance of the role of successful election training centers operating in Georgia and other countries in the direction of promoting democratic elections. In this regard, the parties discussed the perspectives of cooperation between election training centers and election administrations.
