A working meeting is underway to develop the gender equality policy document, strategy and action plan of the Central Election Commission (CEC).
The meeting was opened today in Borjomi by Giorgi Kalandarishvili, CEC Chairperson, Manager Miranda Tkabladze, gender and inclusion manager of International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), Maya Zaridze, Chair of the CEC Gender Equality Council, and expert Irma Pavliashvili.
Giorgi Kalandarishvili spoke about the importance of gender equality issues and the activities carried out by the Election Administration (EA) in this direction - "Gender equality and support of the inclusive election process are one of the important directions for the EA. It is important to have a policy document that defines the vision of the institution regarding the effective implementation of activities in this direction. During two days, with the support of our international partner, IFES, we will review the current document of gender equality policy in the CEC and bring it into line with the current challenges facing the institution. We will develop an appropriate strategic and action plan in order to ensure equal conditions in this direction both for the 2024 and subsequent general elections."
The working meeting started with the introduction of the evaluation report, findings and recommendations of the gender equality policy document of the CEC, which was presented by Irma Pavliashvili. During two days, the participants of the meeting will discuss such important issues as the strategic planning of the gender equality policy, the development of the action plan of the Gender Equality Council, etc.
The working meeting is organized by the CEC Gender Equality Council and supported by IFES.
