Representatives of the Republic Election Commission of Serbia (RIK) got familiarized with the experience of the Election Administration of Georgia. In the frames of the study tour Giorgi Kalandarishvili, CEC Chairperson, and Srdjan Smiljanić, RIK Secretary, opened the meeting. Giorgi Kalandarishvili underscored the importance of experience sharing between election administrations and stated that the Georgian side would detail Serbian colleagues on successful reforms and novelties implemented by the Election Administration during the two-day.
"Reforms and progress made by the Election Administration in the recent period do not remain unnoticed by the election administrations of other countries. A good indicator of this is that today we are hosting the Serbian Election Commission Delegation. We share with them our experience in important topics such as the increase in transparency, technology adoption, electronic services development, etc. I believe that the mentioned will support the Serbian Election Commission to carry out its activities efficiently. Meetings based on sharing information and practices help to deepen cooperation with other countries' election organizations; it also enables us to look at other countries' good practices and consider them during planning/implementing our activities to the extent possible", Giorgi Kalandarishvili stated.
Mandate, composition, and structure of Election Administration of Georgia, use of technology in elections, voter education/awareness, work of Electoral Systems Development, Reforms, and Training Centre, cooperation with organizations working on issues of persons with disabilities, communication with media and stakeholders, and topics related to disinformation – Heads of CEC structural Units and Director of Training Centre introduced this and other issues to Serbian colleagues. RIK representatives also discussed their respective experiences. Davit Ghonghadze, Deputy Country Director - Georgia, International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), and Jovana Strahinić, IFES Serbia, Senior Project Officer, moderated the meeting.
