About 300 public school students are being informed about electoral issues. Important electoral topics are being discussed by the young people at the public schools in 64 municipalities, which contributes to their awareness-raising. Information-learning course “Elections and Young Voter” is being conducted based on the updated concept. The training program is developed by the CEC Training Center and covers those issues that motivate young people to become more interested in electoral processes and be active participants in these processes.
During the three-day learning course, participants learned about the theoretical, as well as practical issues, related to the electoral environment, the negative impact of disinformation and hate speech, services introduced by the Election Administration to ensure credibility and transparency of elections. During the course debates, are being conducted as well. In addition, students meet with the Election Administration officials and receive information on Election Administration activities, the use of modern electoral technologies in the electoral process, etc.
To share the information on elections and their importance, Giorgi Sharabidze, Deputy CEC Chairperson along with Natia Zaalishvili, Director of the CEC Training Center met with the students of N192 public school.
“I would like to thank all the project participants, the CEC Training Center, and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, for this opportunity to implement this excellent project; to lay the ground for the sharing of important election-related information and voter-related information. Indeed, it is very important to realize at this age, that starting from the school-age until we are the citizens of this county, we all carry an important responsibility which is related with the future of our country” – stated Giorgi Sharabidze.
The project has been implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia since 2015. About 13 000 students of 738 public schools already participated in the project.
