The Election Administration (EA) of Georgia presented 2017 activity report. Tamar Zhvania, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia, Giorgi Sharabidze, the CEC Deputy Chairperson, Giorgi Javakhishvili, the CEC Secretary, Natia Zaalishvili, a Director of Training Center and Ana Mikeladze, the CEC Spokesperson delivered information on activities implemented in terms of institutional strengthening, civic and voter education, enhancement of election environment, and electoral operations in 2017. Tamar Zhvania also spoke about existing challenges and future plans.
Representatives of political parties, domestic and international organizations, diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia, state entities and the media attended the meeting and got familiar with the information related to conduct of Representative Body of the Municipality - Sakrebulo Elections and Mayoral Elections of self-governing cities/self-governing communities. Importantly, mentioned elections are deemed to be the most difficult to administer in terms of organizing. In addition, innovative services and projects implemented to ensure that the voter had the possibility to participate in the election process in the free environment were also mentioned.
At the meeting were discussed the steps taken by the EA to ensure effective management and inclusive election environment, implemented civic and voter educational programmes, a special programme for online registration, support in civil society engagement, cooperation with electoral stakeholders, capacity-building programmes for members of the EA and other important issues.
