The information-training campaign "Promoting Youth Involvement in the Open Government Process" continues to raise awareness of youth on electoral matters. As part of this campaign, the CEC and its Training Center are conducting a series of seminars on election issues for the students of partner universities.
From 13 to 27 May 2022, the project will be implemented in stages at 8 partner universities and the training format envisages in-person meetings and distance learning as well. To follow the line of the course’s main priority of rising students as active and informed voters, the information -training program focuses on the students at their initial stage of the university courses who due to their young age have less electoral experience.
The officials from the CEC and the Training Center meet the students within the framework of this informative course. On May 18, CEC Deputy Chairman Giorgi Sharabidze and Head of the Training Center Natia Zaalishvili visited Grigol Robakidze University. The rector of the University Mamuka Tavkhelidze opened the event and in his speech, he underlined the importance of the educational programs implemented through the years of fruitful cooperation with the Election Administration.
In the opening part of the meeting, the CEC Deputy Chairman Giorgi Sharabidze and Head of the Training Center Natia Zaalishvili talked about the role of youth involvement in the election process and discussed with the students the practical aspects of the election administration activities, related to services suggested to voters and piloting electoral technologies. They also discussed the negative impact of disinformation and the importance of increasing voter awareness in this regard. The second part of the meeting was dedicated to the seminar "Informed Young Voters", where the trainers of the CEC Training Center shared with students the international standards for democratic elections and guarantees for the realization of suffrage (including the importance of an inclusive electoral environment and supportive environment).
About 80 students from the law faculty, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Public Administration and Politics took part in the information meeting held at Grigol Robakidze University. At this stage, seminars were also held at Samtskhe-Javakheti State University, Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University, and Alte University. The next stage of the planned seminars will be implemented in the following universities: Guram Tavartkiladze Tbilisi Teaching University, Ilia State University, Caucasus International University, and the Davit Agmashenebeli University of Georgia.
