Informational-Training Course “Elections and Young Voters” in Public Schools has Launched

The CEC and the Training Centre, will be implementing informational-training course “Elections and Young Voters” in public schools, from March 15 to April 8, 2021. The program is aimed to support enhancing electoral awareness of 11th-12th grade students of public schools and to promote raising their civic responsibility

In accordance with the concept elaborated by the Training Centre, students of public schools will get acquitted to various important issues, such as:

  • historical excursus and modernity of elections;
  • principles and international standards of conducting democratic elections;
  • gender equality in electoral process;
  • role of Election Administration of Georgia in organizing and managing elections (including, modern electoral services offered to voters);
  • importance of voter’s role in democratic elections;
  • legal rights of stakeholders involved in electoral process and main guiding principles of their activities to ensure conducting democratic elections;
  • regulations related to conducting elections in safe environment under pandemic;
  • voting and counting of votes using electronic technologies (sharing international practices and Georgia’s experience).

In accordance with the state policy on educational process under pandemic, this year, the above-mentioned informational-training project is being implemented using two methods:

  • in 204 public schools, the training will be conducted in classes, using face to face training method for those students who continue educational process in classrooms – the course will be implemented by Election Administration’s 102 trainers, trained by the Training Centre;
  • in 40 public schools the training course will be conducted using distance training method for those students who continue educational process in distant learning format – the course will be implemented by the Training Centre’s employees.

The practical format of the ongoing program in public schools, also envisages organizing debates to support the development of debate culture among young people and performing mock elections with the participation of students.

The project is being implemented from 2015 in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia. As of today, 8500 young people from 494 public schools participated in the project. In 2021, the program will be implemented in 244 public schools throughout 64 municipalities in Georgia.
